(Under Construction)
This is an artists conception of what the castle will look like when finished.
It looks like we may all need to live in castles soon to protect us from our government.

 Pictures of recent progress (
2015)

1-2-2015 This is a view from the front of the castle at the beginning of 2015.
The three story part is the "KEEP" where we live. The one story part to the left
is the storage room over the garage. The low part on the right is the new addition
to the basement.
1-24-2015 It's about time I got around to installing the railing on the
third floor. The railing I was able to get at an auction is alittle too short
for the space I have. I will need to add a little section onto the wall.
1-25-2015 This is what it looks like after I built the framing and
installed the wallboard. I still need another layer of mud and to do
the finishing sanding and painting.
1-26-2015 This is what it looks like when finished.
3-10-2015 This is our friend Uni. She thinks she is a unicorn
because she has a white mark in the middle of her face. She is
the only one I have seen that has a mark like this.
3-11-2015 Now that the weather is finally getting better, I can do a
little work outside. I have started digging out the area where I will be
building the stairwell to the new basement storage area.
3-27-2015 In order to install a door between the old basement and the
new addition to the basement, I need to remove blocks in the opening
for the door. Even with a big sledgehammer, this is a lot of hard work.
3-27-2015 The new door is now in place. I still need to do some
caulking and painting.
3-28-2015 I have also been doing some work outside. The footer forms
are about ready to have the footers poured, and I have dug a trench
for the black pipe that will be the drain for the French Drain
around the footers, and also the drain for the stairwell.
4-1-2015 I have finished pouring the footers, and started installing
the blocks.
4-6-2015 A couple of days ago, I poured the cement for the floor.
It is now hard enough to walk on so I can continue with the block walls.
4-16-2015 The blocks are all installed, the parging has been done,
and the waterproofing is finished.
5-14-2015 Moatmonster has started digging the hole for the footers
for the gatehouse.
5-19-2015 The work is almost finished on the stairwell. There are
still a few minor odds and ends to do, but I'll get to them when I
have time.
5-21-2015 Our friend "Beast" stopped by for a visit today. She
came to inspect the work we have been doing. Beast is our best
turtle friend. She has been coming around for at least 7 years.
If you check back to the 2008 section of the webpage, you can
see a photo of her on 4-27-08. I understand the Eastern Box Turtle
can live for 50 years or more. She could be living here longer than
we are.
5-27-2015 I've started installing the forms for the footers that
will support the gatehouse.
5-30-2015 I've made a little more progress on the forms for the
gatehouse footers.
6-1-2015 A stranger stopped by in the yard today. I mentioned that she
should come back again around Thanksgiving, but when she heard the
word "Thanksgiving",
  she left in a hurry.
6-4-2015 While taking Galin for his morning walk we passed a tree.
Galin noticed there was something lying near the tree. It was a new fawn.
Fortunatly, I had a camera with me so I took a photo. We heard the fawn
say "A week ago I was in a nice, warm, quiet place. Now I'm out in the rain with
strangers looking at me." We hope the weather gets better so the fawn
can start having some fun.
6-6-2015 Our friend Bart Butterfly stopped by today to say hello. He is a
friendly person, but he never offers to help with the work.
6-8-2015 I tamped the soil under the footers, then added some gravel,
and tamped again. A little more work, and I'll be ready for the concrete pour.
6-9-2015 Another inspector stopped by today to check on our progress with
the footer forms. Her name is Ms. silver.
6-12-2015 The nice man from TBH Concrete brought us a truckload of
concrete today. My friend Jerry came over to help smooth it out.
6-12-2015 This is what the footers for the gatehouse look like now.
6-16-2015 Another inspector showed up today. His name is Mr. Black.
I told him another inspector was just here, and he had an angry look
on his face as he left.
6-18-2015 We had a load of blocks delivered today.
6-18-2015 This is what the work area looks like now. One row
down, five to go.
6-18-2015 We had a visitor this evening. He seems pleased
that he knocked over our bird feeder.
6-19-2015 Two rows down, four to go.
6-22-2015 Four rows down, two to go.
6-25-2015 I just finished laying the last row of foundation blocks for
the gatehouse.
7-8-2015 I made a new friend today. She didn't tell me her name, but
she sure is cute.
7-12-2015 Some of Patty's long time friends Shirley, Shereen, and Wilma
stopped by for a visit. We all had fun.
7-12-2015 We have new twins in the neighborhood.
7-13-2015 Some new people stopped by today, I'm not sure who they are.
7-28-2015 On these hot days, it's nice to have a nice place to relax
 in the woods.
7-30-2015 This is the first time we have ever seen 4 spotted fawns
in the yard at the same time.
7-30-2015 In case it looks like I haven't been doing anything, I have.
I need to level out the area that will be the courtyard. The dirt here
is very poor, and this is what it looks
like when the backhoe first digs it up. Lots of shale that I need to
filter out and get rid of.
7-30-2015 With just some basic tools, I need to change the rocky dirt
into this much less rocky dirt.
7-30-2015 This is what the rocks look like that I throw away. This
is about a third of what I have discarded so far. There is still a
lot to go. All this work is done by hand, so it takes a long time.
8-6-2015 I am continuing with digging the trench and setting up the
footer forms for the next section.
8-11-2015 The trench is almost finished, but it will take a while to
install and level the footer forms.
8-13-2015 Some of our deer friends are quite lazy.
8-18-2015 April and Karen stopped up to see the castle today. They seemed
to get along well with Galin. We hope they had fun.
9-23-2015 Our friend Barney stopped by tonight.
10-6-2015 It's time to get back to work. I have the trenches dug out,
and the forms in place to pour the next part of the footers.
10-7-2015 Okay, the truck's here.
10-7-2015 With the help of my friend Jerry, we start setting
the concrete.
10-7-2015 Okay, it's all in place.
10-7-2015 After it hardens up, I can start laying block.
10-8-2015 I received an e-mail asking to see plans of what
the new section will look like. This gives the general idea.
The footer in the photo above is for the wall between
the courtyard and the great hall.
10-15-2015 I have started to lay the blocks. Two rows down,
four to go.
10-17-2015 Four rows down, two to go. I may do a little
backfilling before laying more blocks.
10-22-2015 I just finished row 6, the last row in this section
of the foundation.
10-24-2015 We had a visit from Andy and Maxine. They are friends
of our friends Wendel and Vaughn. All four of them were here,
and we enjoyed the visit.
11-5-2015 The footer forms are in for the next portion of the job.
The concrete truck is scheduled to be here this afternoon.
11-5-2015 The truck made it here, and we are pouring this portion
of the footers.
11-5-2015 Sir Galin seems to be happy with the way things are going.
11-6-2015 This is what the footers look like the next morning.
11-6-2015 I still need to dig out this area to put the footer
for the tower that will be on this corner of the castle.
11-12-2015 Moatmonster is busy digging out the space for the last tower.
11-16-2015 We had another delivery of blocks today.
11-17-2015 The dirt is all gone now, and I am in the process of
putting in the forms for the last tower.
11-25-2015 This is what the gatehouse looks like before we pour
the sub-floor.
11-25-2015 This is what the gatehouse looks like during the pour.
11-25-2015 This is what the gatehouse looks like after the pour.
11-25-2015 This is what the tower area looks like before we pour
the footer.
11-25-2015 This is what the tower area looks like after the pour.
12-3-2015 In order to make sure the tower is round, I placed a
steel pole in the center, and use a 2X2 to make sure all the blocks
are placed the same distance (6 feet) from the center.
12-7-2015 I have finished 3 rows of blocks on the straight walls,
and 2 rows on the tower section.
