UNKNOWN CASTLE

I received E-Mail that said:

Once a few years ago, I was with a friend and her dad. He took us to what he called "his wife's dreamhouse." It wasn't the old mill in Salt Lake, it was a lot bigger and prettier, and was definitely a castle type building. I believe it was somewhere in the Sandy or Holladay/Milcreek region of Salt Lake City (Towards the east bench). If anyone has information on where it's located, I'd love to go back and take some pictures of it.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

On your website, you mention a castle in Salt Lake City, Utah that you didn't have any pictures or info about. Well, I think this may be the "Castle" you're looking for. It's actually called the "McCune Mansion". It is located at 200 North, Main Street which is pretty much right in the heart of Salt Lake. Anyway, the website to access more info. about this mansion is www.mccunemansion.com I hope this helps you out.

Hi, I’m from Salt Lake, and you have an “Unknown Castle” for Salt Lake, that someone said they think it’s the McCune Mansion. I don’t think that’s the one the person was thinking of. The person mentioned that they saw the Castle in a Holladay/Sandy area. I think it was the Castle Inn that they saw. I don’t think it was the McCune Mansion, that’s downtown, and it’s not a castle.

It is starting to look like this listing is for the same castle as the Castle Creek listing. I'll wait a little while, and if I don't hear more about this, I will remove this page.

Later, I received e-Mail that said:

The two castles you mentioned in Utah, The Castle Creek Inn and the McCune Mansion are not the same castle, they are two seperate locations. The Castle Creek Inn is located at 7391 S Creek Rd. Sandy UT 84093 and McCune Mansion is located at 200 N Main St. Salt Lake City UT 84103. Unfortunately I don't know much about either of them.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

I used to live in the Salt Lake City area, and I think the 'castle' the first email sender was talking about may be a French restaurant called La Caille. (http://www.lacaille.com/) It is in the area described (between Holladay and Sandy on the east bench), whereas the McCune mansion is much further north in the downtown area. The building is gorgeous, and in a beautiful setting, but again, not what I would properly call a castle--more like a French 'maison de pays' or fancy country house. There are no hints of fortress architecture.

The Old Mill is located 6845 S. Big Cottonwood Canyon road. It is privately owned. It is unknown to me what the plans are. It has been empty over 15 years.

Just a Thought... There is a Castle type home up the mountain base along Wasatch St. This home is very prominate with white brick and towers. This is called Villa Bellissimo, maybe this is the unknown you are looking for?

I do believe the first emailer is speaking of Villa Belicima. I don't know much about it but it is just finishing completion. I snuck into the property back when it was being built when it was just a plywood mansion, about 7 or 8 years ago with my friends to have a sneak peak. The building is massive but I don't know if you would classifly it as a Castle. It is very very beautuful though, taking more after a European palace. I can't even imagine what it looks like inside now finished, it was mind blowing when I was just poking around in its ply wood shell those few years ago.

There is also another property still being built right across the street. It is definitely shaped more like a castle with dark purple stone covering the outside. Its smaller but is definitely a castle.
