KOBB'S CASTLE?

KOBBIN'S CASTLE?

COBB'S CASTLE?

I received E-Mail that said:

I have been trying to research a castle my Mom talks about. She grew up in Erie PA. She claims there was a castle in Kane PA called Kobb's Castle, or Kobbins Castle. He father (Theodore Fellows) and grandfather (John English) told her that we were decendants of the King in that castle. I can't find the castle and I was hoping you might be able to help. The hometown where she grew up in now under Kinzu Dam. I would appreciate ANY info you could find.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

Spoke briefly with my father who's originally from Warren. There is/was a Kane Manor which was built by a man named Kane. He was an officer possibly a general in the civil war, big in lumber, the town is named after him. He was influential with the Mormons and according to dad they even have a statue of him in Salt Lake City. The manor I believe was used as a nursing home for a while then a bed and breakfast and was recently sold. Needs work.

As for Korbs castle dad said there was a place in Warren they called Corbin or Korbin castle which he said was nothing more than a big house 14 or so rooms. He had a friend who lived there and he spent a 4th of July there once.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

THERE IS NO CASTLE IN KANE, PA. KANE IS CALLED THE "CHERRY CAPITOL OF THE WORLD" CLAIMING TO HAVE MORE CHERRY TREES THAT ANY OTHER TOWN. THERE IS A WINERY IN KANE (A NEWER BUSINESS) AND A COUPLE OF BED AND BREAKFASTS, ONE BEING KANE MANOR.

KANE MANOR IS AN OLD MANSION. I THINK IT IS TIMBER FRAMED, NO BRICK OR STONE AND NO RESEMBLANCE TO A CASTLE.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

Someone wrote to you regarding a place called Kobbins Castle near Kane, PA. There was a mention of Kane Manor as a possible building representing that castle.

I can say definitively that Kane Manor is not the “castle” that the inquirer would be interested in. It is a large house constructed of yellow brick in a Colonial Revival style, built around the turn of the century. My grandfather grew up at Kane Manor, which is also called by the family “Anoatok”. It was occupied from the time of its construction by Kanes and has no connection with any other family.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

I was on your web page this afternoon and discovered an unknown castle listing in pennsylvania... the property to which i think you are referring to is called "Cobhams Castle" and is in Warren Pennsylvania. I would hardley classify is a castle... it's more of a Gothic Revival turned Greek with the tacky addition of a portico on the front. It was built in the mid 1800's by George Cobham.

Later, I received E-Mail that said:

Hi, I am responding to all the correspondence on your page to Cobham Castle. I am from Warren PA, and I can tell you from first hand that "Cobbs Castle" does exist. My husband worked for the old caretaker for some time on his farm. To my knowledge, it is a real castle. The old care taker would talk about the "dungeons" with the chains still hanging on the wall. Unfortunately, it was bought privately after the elderly owner died, and his family split up his estate. It was once featured in a magazine, I think it was Architectural digest, or something of that sort. Anyway's the new owners redid most of the interior. No one is allowed on the property, and trees block the drive, so it is very hard to see.

But, later, I received E-Mail that said:

I was looking at your excellent site one morning and almost fell out of my chair. I got into the PA castles and I see Unknown Castle - Kane.

I grew up in Kane PA and the e-mails you posted are correct. There is no castle in Kane. The old mansion is called the Kane Manor. Just an big old house that is being converted into a Bed and Breakfast.

My family still lives there and my dad said he thought there was a castle type house in the village of Kinzua (west of Warren) Unfortunately, a dam was constructed in the 60's and the whole town is now at the bottom of the reservoir.

On 10-7-16, I received e-mail that said:

I saw your page online and wanted to help. Cobham Castle is correct for the one place you are hunting for info on in PA near Kane Pa. Built in 1856.

Not a typical Castle but it is very beautiful.

Address is 3796 Cobham Park Rd Warren PA 16365

{{Castlefinder note!}}
Now that I have seen a photo, I agree with those that said it is not a castle. I will remove this listing later.
