UNKNOWN CASTLE ??

I received E-Mail from Jennifer Crumpton that said:

There is another castle in Missouri. I am not sure of the name. It is located on Castle Ranch Road just off highway 21 between the city limits of De Soto and Hillsboro (which are located 40 something miles south of St. Louis). Until recently, the castle served as a nursing home.

After seeing the photo, I'm not sure I would classify this as a castle. I would like it better if it had crenelations, but I don't see any. Does anyone have more information about this building?

The unknown castle in DeSoto is deffinately a castle. The story told to me was of a wealthy St.Louisan who started the castle for his wife. He had intended to build two and have actual mock battles between them. The castle was never completed due to the wifes untimely death. The second was never started. The land is surrounded by a stone wall and has a lake. The castles were to be on opposite hills overlooking the lake.

I grew up across the road from the castle property. My Dad still lives there. While I was growing up it was a nursing home. One of the two women who owned it still lives there. The property has always been closely guarded by the owners, they have never let people use the two lakes or even step foot on the property. (Though I used to sneak back there as a child)…..

It is gorgeous wooded property with two pristine lakes. I have never been in the castle itself. The history we heard on it was that it was originally built to be a summer resort for a wealthy St Louisan and his family but after the second world war it went up for sale and then was turned into a nursing home. The home was shut down at least 20 years ago but the two owners have remained living there. One is now deceased.

A special thanks to Randy Shepard for taking and sending the photo.
