I would be interested to know more about the history of this castle.

The Lawrence Castle in Wichita, KS is actually built in someone's backyard, I believe. It's on the east side of wichita, and if I recall, is visible from US 54 (Kellog). It consists of mostly what you see in the photo.

This castle is indeed in someone's back yard. I attended a "post-revel" at the owner's home after an event for the Society for Creative Anachronism sometime in 1995. What you see in the picture was truly all that was there. The room inside the tower was very nicely done. I believe that the owner considered it a work in progress. A very impressive backyard by torchlight!

I had the opportunity to walk through "Lawrence Castle" in wichita this year. It is located in a residential back yard. The castle has the main body that you have pictred and it also has a cross walk that joins it to a two story carraige house type structure. The structure is still under construction and has been for years. The work is not of the best quality but is still an interesting building.
