KOCUREK CASTLE

On 5-25-09, I received E-Mail that said:

Do you know anything about a Castle Kocurek near Schulenburg, Texas?

I did a little research on the web and found out that:

Gary Kocurek and his wife, Dianna, are slowly building themselves a proper castle southeast of Austin. Both are “Tex-Czechs” and have traced their ancestry to an eastern part of the Czech Republic. They have established that some of their very distant ancestors belonged to a nomadic group known as the Vlachs. After visiting the famous Dracula Castle, Gary seems to have discovered a need for fortification (this is actually his second castle, for he built a tower keep in his backyard some years ago—sort of a warm-up effort).

On 1-1-14, I received e-mail that said:

I have family near Schulenburg, TX so I was very interested to learn there was a castle nearby. I did some sleuthing through appraisal records and found the place. There is no street view out in Schulenberg, but there is a satellite view available of the property owned by Mr. Kocurek that can be seen at the following location on Google Earth: 29.701098,-96.828664. Also, there is a great birds eye view taken from a plane available on Bing. It looks like it would be a great place to visit.

In september 2015, Patty and I visited this castle. We talked to Mr. Kocurek. He was very nice, and let us take a look at his beautiful castle. I do not think this is normally open for tours, it is a private residence.
