I recently came across your website when I was desperately trying to locate a castle, or at least what I remember to be a castle, from my childhood. It is located in Illinois, somewhere in the vicinity or there-abouts in the country/rural Rock Falls area.
The family that owned it at the time was the McClean family.(I think I am spelling the name wrong by a letter or two) This was about 25 years ago. I went to school with one of the girls that lived there. I remember going to her house for a birthday party once. When we arrived I was in awe. This was no house that I had ever seen. It was made of stone, very, very old, and it had turrets and everything. The place had always stuck in my mind and now that I am grown, and an archaeologist, I am even more drawn to that image in my mind. If there is any way that you could help me find this place, or at least steer me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

I heard that the McClean castle was purchased last year after having been empty for some time. I've been told the plans are that it be turned into a home again as my mother drove by and said they had scaffolding. She inquired from nearby neighbors and heard it was purchased for a low price.

My wife and I have recently purchased it and we are starting the remodeling to get it back in shape. The turret is gone, but the base is there, we are planning to rebuild it also.
